Part of Colin Thom (England's Drunkest Painter)'s so called "Throw Up" series. Birdman Blew marks the end of Thom's period of swallowing, "uncounted pills with my woodpecker cider." After this, Thom endeavoured to move to only even numbers of pills swallowed with, "what else? Pilsner." The story of this painting comes from a Northumberland legend where the squire dresses as a bird and drinks too much from a fouled birdbath. The bird grows large with drink and vomits near an orphanage, frightening a child. It is not a very good legend, and this makes this painting a lesser one in Colin Thom's opus.
