An unusual painting for Colin Thom in that it doesn't involve anybody drinking. The tall bird people were actually children in costume on stilts at the Chelsea Physic Garden Open House. Thom had passed out in the garden the night before after eating some medicinal herbs. He woke to the entertainers performing for children, believing that these were his imaginary drinking buddies come to bring him "an umbrella drink of some sort." Sorely disappointed when he realized he was not experiencing a delusion, Thom vowed never to be sober again.
